Description

Friesian unicorn sculpture, this is Lissome.

Made from super sculpey clay over wire and foil. He is about 7 inches tall to the crest of his neck. Glass eyes, tibetan lamb fur hair.

Since he was going to be black, I tried to pay attention a lot to the muscle detail and everything, and tried to make it very detailed. His face turned out quite well I think, but his pose is sort of odd. I wanted to make a square standing bowed neck pose, and his back looks a bit too square. I can't quite place why it looks weird.

His horn and hooves are painted dark silver and glossed. He isn't sparkly; I wanted him to just be black.

He was fun to make, I think I'm getting better at anatomy. I will be listing him on etsy sometime, so you can see that if you want to buy him. There is a link to my etsy shop in my journal.

First off, let me start by saying, I think you have outdone yourself on this one. You've been gradually progressing with the equine anatomy, and it really shows in this latest sculpture.
Since you've been posting some things that you've done from Indigo's cast offs, I can actually use her style as a reference point to give you some advice.
One of the things I'm most happy to see in this most recent sculpture is that you have started to thin out the legs, especially in the joint areas. I tend to notice that when you sculpt equines, the musculature is right on par, the positioning of the body is superb, but when you do the legs, the tend to run a bit on the thick side as they come into the "knee" points, if you will. In this big boy, you've stayed considerably on the lighter side and conveyed strength and power without the need for bulk.
Although you think his back may be a little square, it doesn't take away from the overall effect, considering there is a definite slop away from the withers and projection of the hip towards the tail.
The curve of his powerful neck leads into a gorgeously sculpted face, that also seems to have more definition and "soft-roundedness" than your previous attempts.

I think that this boy is absolutely stunning, the pose is perfect and I am thoroughly impressed with him. Of course, you know my dear, that I am super partial to Fresians, but in this case, there is no need to be biased..lol. I can't wait to see what you put out next, and I may just have to bid on this guy. Brightest blessings and much love.
