Chance to win a Sculpture Commission!

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 12, 2011, 12:55 PM

News and Fun Happenings

Hey guys, I have some exciting news. As you might know, *Riabhach runs a model horse show every year called "American Heartland Live" in order to raise money for Long Meadow Rescue Ranch. The show has a whole bunch of raffle prizes available to both people who attend the show and everyone else! This year I have donated a gift certificate, good for a 5 inch commission from me.($120 value!) So, the winner would contact me after the show and let me know what kind of horse, unicorn, hippocampus, kirin, or whatever else they want. This would be the same as paying me for a commission, you get to pick all the details for the sculpture and I would pay to mail it to you (worldwide).

So, how do you enter, you ask? The contest is a raffle! Ticket prices are as follows:
$1 each
6 for $5,
12 for $10
18 for $15, etc
125 for $100

Payments can be made by cheque, money order, or paypal. For paypal payments, please get *Riabhach to send you a payment request or invoice, as paypal has issues with payments marked as raffle contests. In order to enter, please contact *Riabhach by note with how many tickets you would like. She lives in the states (if you're mailing a cheque or a money order) but the sculpture will ship from me, in Canada.

The show is going to take place between May 21 and 22 in Platte City, Missouri, in case you are close by and want to go! Remember, all raffle ticket proceeds will go to Long Meadow Rescue. If you want more information on the show, please check out the facebook page: [link] or the website: [link]

Also, many other amazing artists have donated raffle prizes, which you can see here: [link] If you want to buy raffle tickets for anything else, the same process applies.

I wanted to post this here because I know a lot of people have expressed interest in commissioning me, but I know it's expensive for a sculpture. So, this is an opportunity to win a commission for only a few dollars! And, your proceeds will be going to a great cause.

If you have any questions please feel free to comment here, on the facebook page, or to note *Riabhach directly. I am not the one selling the tickets so you will have to message *Riabhach to actually buy them, but I'm here to answer questions.

I hope everyone will have a look and consider entering!

Whoever wins that will be so lucky! :la: I would totally get in on it but...if I can't use paypal I'm a little uncomfortable with sending money off somewhere. It's way cool of you to donate a sculpture to this, though!

I think the issue with paypal is that when the payment is listed as a raffle contest and one account receives a bunch of money they assume it's a scam or something. But =Riabhach said paypal is fine as long as she sends a payment request to you before you actually pay. I don't recieve a lot of money on paypal too often so I'm not sure what the finer rules are. I would be uncomfortable sending cash myself, and money orders cost like $8 to get here so I understand for sure. :D

That's really interesting. I guess I can see why they would think that, but...still. Weird. xD I've never received money on it, so I have no idea how that really works. But yeah, too many horror stories of envelopes ripped opening and missing whatever was inside :paranoid: Dang, that's a really expensive money order though!

Yeah I hear about paypal putting holds on funds until the item arrives, or reversing the payment just because the buyer sent in a complaint, crazy things like that. It has such good protection but there are some odd rules that I've never looked into. But anyway, if you want some tickets feel free to note =Riabhach and I'm sure she can set up a paypal bill thing. :)

Huh. Good to know paypal looks out for you, but still, that's a little wonky. I mean, if people want to participate in a raffle...Paypal is like, the bank of the internet now. xD

Yep, and the paypal+ebay combination is even more intense. But as a buyer, if the seller doesn't fufill their end, paypal will give your money back, even at their own expense. So I think it's worth dealing with the nonsense.
