Zombie Unicorn Halloween Costume 2012by *scenceable

In the past few years I have not really participated in Halloween at all. However, this year not only am I not in school, but I had tickets to see Epica on Halloween, so I took the opportunity to actually make something. The last time I dressed up for Halloween was in Grade 9, so like 7 years ago or something.

We went out on the weekend (The Saturday before Halloween) and took these photos for that, and then we went out to Epica on the Wednesday (the 31st). Despite having two opportunities to wear it, I didn't end up getting nice photos. Most of the photos we took were selfie type bar photos

Anyway, perhaps I'll have another chance to wear it (convention or something) and I'll get nicer photos at that time!

The mask is the most interesting part... it's totally handmade. I used chunks of mattress foam to make the shape, and then a paper mache for the form (white glue mixed with flour). The eyes and teeth are made from translucent white polymer clay. I also used faux fur, mohair, and some fake latex stuff.

Not pictured is the back - there is actually a shawl made of fur that goes over my shoulders with a spine down the back. The spine has vertebrae exposed with some fur mane and blood. Again, I need to get nicer photos.

The skirt is an old skirt I got at a thrift store, sewn together with a curtain sham (also from the thrift store) to bulk it out and make it more flowy. The bandages were all cut up and painted by me. Me and a friend had some fun bloodying my outfit outside in the rain that day.

People liked the costume too! I won 3rd place in the costume contest at the bar we went to on Saturday so they took $50 off our tab. And lots of random drunk people were petting the head throughout the night, including in the line for the bathroom.

All in all, a solid Halloween!
