Portrait of the amazing filly, Zenyatta.
I started this a few weeks ago. I spent about 2 hours photoshopping the references picture to remove the shadow roll and add the black in, since this is what I wanted the drawing to look like. This is 9x12 inches, done in colored pencils. The horse was done mostly in derwent colorsofts for the base coat, and the detailing done with faber castell polychromos. The black was done in pencil crayon but I used ink for the large areas. I'm happy with it, although her eyes and nose seem slightly uneven, and her tack doesn't look all that great. I have no idea exactly how long this took me, between 3-6 hours I would guess. referenced from a photo by ~Prairie-Bayou/Allison Janezic: [link] And since people won't shut up about "Zenyatta or Rachel?" I decided if I had to choose (I love both of them...) I would have to say Zenyatta. *shrugs* Comments
I knew this wasn't a photo, because realistic is just how you roll

I cannot think of a better way to immortalize such a wonderful racehorse!
The only things that could use a real improvement is the side in shadow. The reflection of light on the eye area should match the the other side, or darken that right corner of the left eye.
It is really striking even still!
