Union is a ooak (one of a kind) kirin sculpture, made from polymer clay over a wire and foil armature. He is about 5 inches long from chest to bum and about 8 inches tall to the top of his antlers. He was painted in acrylics and his hair is tibetan lamb fur.
I sculpted Union back in August 2012 when I was in Delaware visiting a good friend of mine, ~3kidsandahorse
(same friend who owns Aphelion and Illiad!). We had several little sculpting parties and I intended to finish Union while there and leave him with Megan as a gift. I ended up finishing the sculpting part but didn't have time to paint him, so left him at her place for her to finish. Almost a year later, Megan mentioned she would be coming up my way and I asked her to bring Union so I could finish him off, and here he is! He'll be going back home to Delaware soon however.
Union has a little chunk of shell for his middle horn, and I painted the other horns to match the same colour. It's a pearlescent pink colour, and is very shiny in person. I modeled the rest of Union's colouring and anatomy after an older sculpture of mine called Verdict, as that was one of the sculptures Megan liked but didn't get a chance to own. The name Union comes from a fun occurrence while in Delaware... we ended up visiting Fair Hill racecourse since we both like horses and I especially like thoroughbreds. Megan used to work for Michael Matz so took me to his barn and who was there before retirement but my favourite racehorse at the time, Union Rags. I gushed over him the whole time and that ended up being one of the biggest highlights of the trip. Later when it came to naming this little guy we were trying to think of options that had to do with the visit. "Blueberry Vodka" didn't have quite the same ring so we went with "Union".
All in all Union here is quite well traveled!
