Kirins Everywhere by scenceable Kirins Everywhere by scenceable
My christmas project this year was to make a bunch of random kirins and here they are! They just need to be painted.

I am going to be livestreaming the painting of these tonight at 8pm EST (so soon, in like 5 or 10 minutes), my channel is here: [link] and painting is kind of boring so feel free to chat and ask questions about sculpting or whatever :) I hope to see you there!

They are all amazing and considering the short amount of time you got all 5 to this point just amazes me! Are you planning on naming them as well? Just beautiful'

^^; thanks! I only managed to finish painting one of them and school starts tomorrow so I didn't quite get done what I wanted to. Then again I hate painting so should have realized it would take longer! Haha, yes they should all get names. I've been keeping a big list of names, I think it has like 300 names on it, I'm sure something will fit each one.

No worries, I'll do another stream soon! I didn't get too far in the last one, just did basecoats and started painting one of them. Still lots to do! I'll try to do another painting stream and a hairing stream at some point.

Just a quick question-- how do you sculpt your scales?

What I do is take a little tiny blob of clay, mould it into an oval, stick it on. Keep doing that in a pattern. After I've got the basic pattern I use a flat edge tool of some sort and put whatever detailing I want in. Some have a dent in the middle, some are diamondy, etc. It depends what you want. At the end I take a brush with oil and go over everything to smooth it out. :)

Thank you! I've worked with clay only twice, and have been considering starting another project, but my inexperience at this point it kinda limiting what I can do lol.
You use oil for the polymer clay?
I know you can use water or rubbing alcohol for epoxy-- I've never tried smoothing polymer clay out with a brush, so I'm not all too sure lol.

Polymer clay is oil based so you have to use oil to smooth it, it works just like water does on epoxy though. I usually use my fingers to smooth but the scales are too tiny. I hope you do more sculpting soon, I'd love to see!

Thank you for the advice-- I never thought of it that way. I shall definitely use it next time I try to sculpt.
