Artist's Comments

my half of a trade with ~Shadowmare365. This is her character, Juliet.

Lookie, I did lines. It was fun. I'm going to do lines more often. It's easier than without, for these anyways.

I have pretty much all my drawing trades done at this point, but I'm going to stagger the uploads slightly because I don't have internet until friday and its overwhelming to come online every few days and see tons of messages ^^;

anyways, I exaggerated her ribbons because they look all nice anf flowy now :D

Outlines in pen and ink and colors with polychromos.

Okay, I've never critiqued anyone before, and I seriously hate to come off sounding like a pompous ass, cause I'm not...so here goes.
First off, I watch you for your overall unique style, and all your drawings have such a lovely sense of fluidness to them, and that is why I love them so much..they have the feeling of flowing on the paper like water, and the blending of your colours and understanding of light is brilliant.
This is a new style from you, (which I am obviously even more partial too, being known for black outlines on my own equine drawings) and I think you have done it well. The black outline adds just the right "pop" to your signature soft blending.
What I do tend to notice with you, and this also seems to be a "signature" of yours that I would recognize anywhere, is, I notice that you tend to draw most of your equines with a very heavy, thick neckline, giving most of them a very "Lippizaner or Andalusian" quality, regardless of the breed. In some of your drawings as well, due to the thickness of the neck, I find that you draw the cheek in relation to the size of the neck, but then the length of your equine's muzzle tends to be shortened a bit more than it should be in relation to the size of the neck and cheek. You don't do it all the time, though....for instance, I noticed the shortening in Elegance, Serenity II and Forest's Spirit. But, on the other hand, you haven't done it in works such as Historia, Morining's Light, and Aeolianna II. I'm curious as to whether you tend to shorten the face when you aren't working off a reference? I'm curious as well to see what you could do if you drew a horse and purposely thinned out the neck, and lengthened the muzzle?
Of course, your graphite drawings off of references are absolutely spot on and amazing, as I expected.
So, in saying all this, I hope you have not been put off by what I've pointed out, as all in all, I hold your art in very high regard as I've said before, but as my husband is always on my ass, telling me, "Think outside the box babe, and just try something that's not normally your style, and just see what happens!" Happy Drawing Love and Keep it Coming!!! I love looking foward to your pieces.
